Meet our new Deputy Head

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong has appointed our new Deputy Head, Ms. Feifei Yang, who has joined the school’s teaching staff for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Ms. Yang joins WASHK from the DBS Denla British School in Bangkok, where she served as the Head of Mandarin.

Originally from Shanghai, Ms. Yang studied Chinese linguistics and literature at Shanghai Normal University before completing her MA in Education Management at King’s College, London.

Upon graduation, she began her teaching at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College.

After six years in London, Ms. Yang transitioned to Singapore where she joined Dulwich College as a founding member of the Chinese department.

In 2019, she joined the Denla British School in Bangkok as the Head of Mandarin before joining Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong.

“I am very excited to be joining Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong. It is a vibrant school with a great teaching staff and community. Although we were all affected last year with balancing remote and in-person learning, the students showed their resilience in adapting to the situation. As teachers, we had to be flexible and accommodating. The primary focus should always be our children’s education,” says Ms. Yang.

During Ms. Yang’s time at the Denla British School, Ms. Yang founded the HSK/YCT Test Centre at the school, in partnership with the Confucius Institute at the Chulalongkorn University (CICU).

Established jointly with Peking University, the mission of CICU is to create and offer educational programs for learners to discover, learn and have a deeper understanding of the Chinese language, culture and art.

At the time, there was no official Chinese language assessment test available at the Denla School, Ms. Yang was inspired to create the HSK/YCT Test Centre, which she felt was essential to providing students and parents with a standardized evaluation for the student’s Chinese language level.

Ms. Yang has over ten years of teaching experience in the Chinese language for both primary and secondary education.

As an IGCSE Mandarin Chinese Examiner for the Cambridge International Examinations since 2013, she is also experienced in preparing students and their transition to university. Ms. Yang looks to bring her expertise to WASHK’s renowned Chinese language programme.

As the Deputy Head of Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, Ms. Yang will be leading the school’s academic team and the day-to-day teaching.

When asked about her new role, Ms. Yang said, “I am certainly looking forward to this challenge of continuing to strengthen our school, improving its operations, and nurturing the relationships between our teachers, students and parents. The school has almost doubled its number of classes from last year, which is a positive indication of the school’s success.”

Ms. Yang is delighted to join the Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong team and looks forward to bringing her wealth of experience to the school.
