Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong’s Award Winning ECA Programme

Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong was recently awarded the Best After-School Programme Award for the Hong Kong Education Awards 2021. The Hong Kong Education Awards is an initiative to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong’s top international schools. The results were decided after a week of intensive judging by an independent panel of education experts, academics, and consultants.

The renowned Extra-curricular Activities Programme (ECA) at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong takes place every day from 3pm – 5pm and offers over 40 different varieties of clubs and activities for students to participate in.  Highlighted by the modern facilities and themed specialist classrooms at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, the ECA Programme is supported by some of the most well-known education, academic enrichment and sports development providers in Hong Kong.

Students at WASHK have the opportunity to experience an inspiring choice of different activities, from individual and team sports to Creative Arts, Music, Chess, Cookery, Drama, Dance, iSTEAM and much more.

Sports development is an integral part of the school’s ECA programme. Students can participate in activities such as football, gymnastics, skateboarding and inline skating and much more. One of the most popular clubs is rock climbing, as students scale up and down the school’s four-storey rock wall every week!

The school’s ECA programme also includes our English as a Second Language and Chinese as a Second Language ECA programmes, which are free of charge and taught by WASHK teaching staff, providing additional support for the students. Families were especially appreciative of the school’s Homework Club, in which subject teachers stay after school each day to help and support students with their homework.

Many students will often be finished with all their homework by the time they get home, leaving the evenings free for family time.

The ECA Programme is led by Head of Physical Education at Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong. He took some time to share his thoughts about the school’s ECA Programme being recognized as the best in Hong Kong.

“We are honoured to be awarded the Best After-School Programme Award in Hong Kong. Parents often worry that participating in extracurricular activities may take away too much time from their children’s schoolwork, thus hurting their grades; however, studies have shown that extracurricular activities can actually improve your grades and your outlook on school! ”

“In addition, extracurricular activities give you something stimulating to do outside of school, providing children with an opportunity to explore their passions and discover things they may be interested beyond academics. We should encourage our children to participate in Extra Curricular Activities, especially during these unprecedented times.

Go out for bike rides or hike and explore the wonderful nature here in Hong Kong if your child is an outdoors person. Try out bowling, or badminton class, or ice skating if your child likes the indoors. All of these extra curriculars are very helpful to physical and mental development and are usually not offered in the conventional school classroom environment.”

Students develop ambition and resilience through the breadth of experiences they enjoy whilst engaging in extra-curricular activities. Our aim is for them to develop into confident, well-balanced, and happy young people, ready to embrace the challenges of a top-flight secondary education wherever in the world they may go.
